Future Focus: YES students discussing careers in healthcare with Mater staff
Where world’s meet
Jessica Fernan, Manager of Dublin ETB, tells Mission
Matters how the Mater, YES and Localise are creating
opportunities for young refugees and migrants
N
estled in the heart of Dublin’s North Inner City
is an unassuming small red- brick building that
is home to one of City of Dublin ETB’s special
projects – the Youth and Education Service for Refugees
& Migrants (YES).
YES supports young people from diverse refugee and
migrant backgrounds, including Separated Children
Seeking International Protection, to access education and
reach their full potential – educationally as well as
personally and socially. For the most part, the young
people have experienced disruption to their lives and
education due to conflict, migration or exclusion. YES
takes pride in offering a wide range of opportunities to
learners to complement the class-based English Language
programmes, with the aim of promoting a sense of
belonging, community and inclusion.
With this in mind, we have teamed up with the Mater’s
Mission Department and Localise – Ireland's National
Youth Volunteering Programme - over the past few years
to run several successful initiatives.
