Called to Care
Living Mission Every day
S
eptember offers a chance to
pause, reflect and consider how
we’re living our Mission today.
Our Mission Week events provide
opportunities to explore this question,
reflecting our core Mercy values:
compassion, connection, wellbeing,
recognition and community.
I particularly enjoy Step with Kindness.
It reminds us that mission can be
simple. A walk with a colleague creates
space for conversation, listening and
connection. Sometimes, simply walking
alongside someone can make a
difference.

through hospitality. Inspired by
Catherine McAuley, it reminds us that
taking time to sit together fosters warmth and belonging.
Our latest lecture series invites us to look beyond diagnoses to the person,
exploring how illness can transform identity, behaviour, relationships and
meaning.
In partnership with Psychiatry, Recovery Week honours the resilience of those on
their recovery journey and the dedicated staff who support them with patience,
encouragement and care.
At the heart of Mission Week is our Mission Awards Ceremony. This is a chance to
celebrate colleagues and teams who embody our Mercy values. Their compassion,
dedication and care truly make a difference to our patients and hospital
community, demonstrating what our Mission looks like in action.
Mercy Day Mass offers prayer and thanksgiving, meditation encourages us to
pause and reconnect and Culture Night celebrates our heritage and community.
I encourage everyone to participate in the events and celebrations, to share in our
Mission Week together, and continue supporting our Mission - our shared calling
to care!
