Philomena Dorgan
1. Tell us something about yourself Philomena
– your working life and family?
I was born and raised in Ringsend, Dublin. I come
from a very large family, as there were fourteen
children in total, eight sisters and five brothers. My
father worked at sea and my mother stayed at home to
look after all of us. I worked as a secretary on Grafton
Street and I enjoyed my job very much. I was never
married, but I lived with my partner, John. He was a
very lovely and kind man, and I loved spending time
with him.
2. When did you come to Fairview, and what
was the reason?
I am nearly ninety years old now, and I felt that it was
the right time for me to receive more support. I do not
remember the exact date that I came into Fairview,
but I know that I have been well looked after here.
A True Dub: Ms. Philomena Dorgan currently resides at the

3. What did Christmas mean for you growing up and as an adult?
Christmas always meant family to me. When I was a child, I was always excited
to see everyone together. That excitement continued into my adult life as well.
The best part of Christmas for me was meeting my family and spending time
with them. Christmas has always been about being together with the people I
love.
4. What has your experience of Christmas been like in Fairview? Are
you looking forward to this Christmas?
My experience of Christmas in Fairview has been wonderful. I love the
decorations and the warm atmosphere and enjoy the festive feeling in Fairview.
Captain of the Ship: CNM 3 Karen
Kennedy runs a wonderful service in
Fairview and says it is the joy, happiness
and warmth that makes Christmnas so
special there.
5. What is the one thing you would like to tell us about the staff at
Fairview – not just at Christmas, but all year round?
The staff are absolutely marvellous. I have no complaints whatsoever. They are
great fun and I love having conversations and enjoying the humour with them.
They are kind, supportive, and friendly throughout the entire year, not just at
Christmas!
