Compassion in action:
A Christmas
Thank You
Dear Colleagues,
The festive season is a time of great joy for many, but also a time of sadness and reflection for
those who have lost loved ones or are far away from home. While many people will be gathering
at home with family and friends, our hospital will continue to be a place of care, safety, and
comfort for our patients — because of you.
Through your relentless compassion and unmatched professionalism, you protect and care for
people at vulnerable times in their lives. No matter what time of day it is, you are always there to
hold a hand or give a reassuring smile and that human touch and compassion, is even more
important at this time of year. Your work asks you to balance your commitment to patients with
the reality of time spent away from loved ones. This is not the case for all jobs or organisations,
many of which will be closed for the holidays.
I promise this does not go unnoticed. Your kindness and professionalism make an enormous
difference to those who rely on us the most.
To every one of you who will be here over the holidays — whether on the wards, in the
Emergency Department, in theatres, in support services, or on call — thank you. You bring
warmth and humanity to our patients at a time when they need it most. The care you provide is a
gift in itself.
I hope to get a chance to meet many of you at the tree lighting ceremony on Thursday December
4th which is a moment to celebrate together with our colleagues and families.
On behalf of the leadership team, I wish each and every one of you a very happy Christmas and I
look forward to working together in 2026.
Wishing you and your families a gentle and peaceful Christmas.
With warmest thanks,
Josephine Ryan
Chief Executive Officer
