Nurturing the Next Generation
The Introduction to Hospital Life Programme again
offered Transition Year students a unique glimpse into
healthcare, with over 20 professional groups
contributing their expertise. One hundred students
participated, exploring career opportunities and
discovering the importance of compassion in every role.
The Mission Office was especially proud to welcome
marginalised students and those with additional
learning needs, ensuring an inclusive and supportive
experience of hospital life.
The Sr. Margherita Rock Community Benefit Bursary
continued to open doors for young people beginning
their studies. This year, two students from St. Vincent’s
School in Glasnevin received bursary support as they
embarked on Biomedical Engineering degrees at UCD.
Both expressed their gratitude for the Mater’s belief in
their potential, describing the award as more than
financial help, it was encouragement, confidence, and
connection. By investing in their future, the hospital
extends its Mission beyond its walls, planting seeds of
hope and opportunity in the next generation
Honouring Heritage and Heart
Progress continued on the Archive and Heritage Centre, with plans advancing for the reading room and display space.
Under the careful stewardship of archivist Helen Madden, the cataloguing and heritage inventory are steadily taking shape,
ensuring the Mater’s story, rich in courage, faith, and service - will be preserved for generations to come.
Within the Chapel, the quiet heart of the hospital, sacristan Michael maintains a sacred and peaceful space for prayer and
reflection. The Annual Remembrance Mass on 19th November brought staff together to remember deceased colleagues,
family, friends, and patients; a moving reminder of the compassion that unites the Mater family.
Kindness in Action
Kindness was alive and well - thanks to Localise Leaders
Cat and Derek, who organised visits from students at
Beneavin De La Salle, St. Declan’s, St. Catherine’s, and
Trinity Comprehensive. Their youthful energy filled the
wards with joy, music, and laughter as they delivered
thoughtful gifts to patients and staff; capturing the true
spirit of giving and reminding us that joy shared is joy
multiplied.
Mercy Beyond Borders
Our partnership with the Mater Hospital in Nairobi continued
to flourish, culminating in a reciprocal visit in November. The
friendship between our two Mater hospitals celebrates a shared
Mercy heritage and a common purpose: compassionate, personcentred care across continents. Together, we continue to build
bridges of solidarity, service, and hope; ensuring that the spirit
of Mercy endures wherever kindness is needed most.
