Q&A
What is your role as Clinical
Nurse manager in Day Surgery
Theatre?
In my role as Clinical Nurse Manager,
I oversee the daily coordination of our
diverse surgical lists, ensuring
operational efficiency and clinical
excellence go hand-in-hand. I act as
the 8link9 between various specialities.
As a small unit, all of us play our part
the smooth running of the unit and so
we really notice when one of our
people retires or moves on.
For example, when something is
troubling one of the team, we all rally
around and offer support.
For colleagues who may never
step inside a theatre, what does a
typical day look like for you and
your team?
Our day is defined by its variety;
because we support multiple
specialitie - including Plastics,
Urology, Gynaecology, Dermatology,
Ophthalmology, and Dental - no two
days are ever the same. Each morning
begins with a critical 8prep phase9
where we ensure we have the
specialized equipment, specific
instrument sets and clinical supplies
required for that day9s unique cohort
of patients. This constant rotation of
specialities keeps us adaptable and
ensures our skills remain broad and
sharp.
While each clinical team focusses on
their specific clinical task, I view my
role as being 8patient advocate.9
